Super glue
A poem
This poem was brought to you by a few sources of inspiration. Firstly Alexander Tkachuk and this piece he wrote. This man knows how to use words.
Secondly I have had multiple interactions on here lately and over the course of my time on Substack that have really opened my eyes to what people can infer from what I say.
I’ve always found myself being misunderstood frequently no matter how clear I try to be. And if I’m not clear, I’m given little room to explain before being told what I should think or do. This use to give me big time anxiety (See this poem here written from inside a spiral after having my words taken out of context.)
But I am shedding insecurities faster than skin cells.
I want to learn, in fact, I crave it. I want to have conversations that make me question what I know. I am happy to be wrong if you give me reason to believe I am. Bring me something to chew on and I will gladly take a bite. Help me see the shape of the idea in your head, I’m genuinely interested.
But I am no longer taking it on as a personal failure if you are offended that I’m pushing back.
Historically I would shrink to make others comfortable and because people typically leave when I’m not agreeable.
But now I let them. Because they had no intention of understanding me anyway. The ones who do, will stay. ✌🏻
Here’s the poem…
I dismantled it into bits
Gave each piece something to carry it.
Let it pour out of my mouth
to be ingested by you.
But you put it back together with super glue.
And it looks nothing like I intended.
Go on, walk away.
I’m finally ok with letting you keep it
in whatever stupid shape you turned it into.
You had no interest in my version anyway.

"I’m so glad I read the whole post—the combo of your intro and this poem is absolute magic! Seeing your journey from shrinking to standing grounded in the intro makes the poem hit so much harder.
'I’m shedding insecurities faster than skin cells' setting up 'put it back together with super glue' is just brilliant.
Refusing to take on other people’s misinterpretations while staying open to real conversation is such a powerful stance. So raw, so authentic, and beautifully written!
Love ♥️ ❤️ 😍 you xxx
Love it.
And I so appreciate "But I am shedding insecurities faster than skin cells." Fan-fucking-tastic!
